Mathematics Degree

Mathematics is a discipline which studies quantity, structure and space. It combines a wide range of applied and theoretical subdisciplines. Mathematics is one of the oldest study disciplines, its development began back in ancient Greece, where it was studied along with philosophy.

Mathematics specializations

Program structure

An undergraduate study program in Maths usually lasts from three to four years, the material is taught in the form of lectures and seminars. Study programs with major in Applied Mathematics often include an internship in various institutions. A study program in Mathematics can be completed with final examination or practical dissertation - it depends on the chosen university and program.

A degree in Mathematics sometimes can be joint with other (usually more applied) subjects, for example, computer science, economics, business management,  physics, statistics or with other subjects related or not related to Mathematics.

Usually the undergraduate degree in Mathematics are called BA (Bachelor of Arts), BSc (Bachelor of Science) or sometimes BMath (Bachelor of Mathematics).

Entry requirements

Those who wish to apply for an undergraduate study program in Mathematics need to demonstrate high GPA scores from high school, especially in Maths and sometimes Physics and other Natural Sciences. Some universities also require applicants to pass one of the international Mathematical tests -  Sixth Term Examination Papers or  Advanced Extension Award. Several universities also provide a pre-undergraduate course who those who wish to prepare for undergraduate program in Mathematics.

Since almost all programs you can find on our website are taught in English, universities always require language proficiency. All universities accept TOEFL, IELTS or other equivalent language certificates, or provide their own examination. Applicants who had completed a degree in English earlier usually are not required to pass language exams.
