Expected learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Graduates:
- will have a good command of the scientific tools which allow them to identify and assess current global environmental problems;
- will have an in-depth knowledge of the innovative technologies used in the new Farming System;
- will have an advanced knowledge of herbaceous and arboreal crops, protection and production techniques in different environments, considering economic, geographic, climatic and social factors;
- will have an in-depth knowledge of the methodologies required in decision-making concerning territorial usage from both an economic and an environmental-agronomic point of view;
- will possess theoretical and practical knowledge of crop and spontaneous plant physiology and the production of both plant and fruit tree crops.
The knowledge and understanding are achieved through participation in lectures, practical exercises, seminars, guided self-study and autonomous individual study in the different fields of learning.
Assessment of the achievement of the learning outcomes shall be mainly through written and oral exams, tests and oral presentations supervised by the professor.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
- will have the ability to identify environmental criticalities and design environmentally sustainable solutions in the interests of fruit and vegetable production;
- will have a command of the practical tools and methodologies for integrated production system analysis;
- will have the practical and technical skills and the in-depth knowledge to evaluate environmental needs (climate, soil, water) of crops to be included in the cropping system;
- will have an overall and in-depth knowledge of farming that will allow them to intervene in the design and sustainable management of the agricultural use of the territory.
The achievement of the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding will be accomplished through the critical study of texts proposed for self-study, stimulated by classroom activities, the research of case studies and applications presented by the professors, calculations and practical laboratory work, computer study, field work, bibliographic research, individual and/or group projects related to the core or supplementary learning activities included in the programme, as well as through the preparation of the final examination.
The tests, written and oral exams, reports, practical work and problem solving activities imply the execution of specific tasks which aim to demonstrate the student's command of tools, methods and critical autonomy.
- will have the ability to autonomously judge the quality and effectiveness of the obtained results, through the appropriate use of operational techniques and instruments based on objective data, supported by solid experience in the field of statistics and GIS (geographic information systems);
- will have the ability to autonomously evaluate the results of their work through to the application and promotion of their design work and projects by public administrations and private businesses.
Judgement skills are developed in particular through practical exercises, supervised seminars and the preparation of papers as part of the activities assigned by the supervising professor in preparation of the final dissertation.
The acquisition of judgement skills is assessed through the evaluation of the learning activities followed during the study programme and the evaluation of the students' ability to work autonomously as well as in groups during the activities assigned in preparation of the final examination.
- will be able to transfer the results obtained during their study activities through printed or electronic reports, geo-referenced databases, cartography and statistical data reports;
- will have the ability to communicate the contents of their work through the production of computer presentations and/or the production of reports for scientific and dissemination purposes, also in the English language;
- will be able to communicate with other professional groups, in particular with chemists, physicists, botanists, hydraulic and energy engineers, and will be able to disseminate their knowledge to others who are not experts in the field using an appropriate language and appropriate teaching tools.
Written and oral communication skills are developed in particular during seminars, practical exercises and learning activities which also require the production of reports and written documents as well as their oral presentation.
The acquisition of the above communication skills will also be assessed and evaluated through the production and presentation of the final dissertation.
- will have the ability to keep abreast of the methods, techniques, tools and regulations concerning their profession through the consultation of appropriate databases;
- will be able to autonomously consult regulatory sources and retrieve information on the introduction of new technologies, research and monitoring methods in the sector.
Learning skills are acquired throughout the study period, particularly concerning self-study, the production of individual projects and activities implemented in preparation of the final dissertation and examination.
Learning skills are evaluated through continuous assessment during the learning activities which require the presentation of autonomously researched data, the preparation of projects and the evaluation of the self-learning skills developed also during the activities in preparation of the final examination, with particular attention to methodological rigour.
During the study programme, the division of the study hours allows the students to assess and continuously improve their own learning skills. The paper prepared for the final examination also has a similar aim, contributing to the achievement of these skills, where students are required to measure themselves and understand new information which is not necessarily provided by the supervising professor.
