Manchester Met is making a limited number of Vice-Chancellor scholarships available, each to the value of £5,000*. These scholarships are open to international students who enrol on a full-time taught programme in September.

 You can apply for an award if you are:

  • an international self-funding student, classified as ‘overseas’ for tuition fee purposes
  • a firm offer holder - you have accepted a place on a taught course starting in September
  • a new applicant - former Manchester Met students are not eligible to apply

Value: between £6,000 and £8000 in the first year of study.

Terms and conditions

  • The Scholars are expected to contribute to the projects of Manchester Met’s alumni community
  • Successful applicants are required to join the International Alumni Ambassador Scheme Eligibility criteria
  • In order to apply, applicants must have accepted an unconditional or a conditional firm offer for a course at Manchester Metropolitan University
  • If a student holds a conditional offer and applies for the Vice-Chancellor International Scholarship, the scholarship can only be awarded once the offer conditions have been met
  • The scholarship award is limited to Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught course applicants only
  • Scholarships are available to new Manchester Metropolitan University applicants; former Manchester Met students are not eligible for the scholarship
  • Applicants must be self-funding and classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes
  • Applicants who defer their studies will not be eligible for the scholarship

Other conditions

The deadline for applications is 19th May

Applications selected to receive a firm scholarship offer must confirm that they accept the award and pay the tuition fee deposit within 14 days

Applications selected for the Reserve List must confirm that they accept the award and pay the tuition fee deposit within 7 days

Scholarship awards are made by the VC Scholarship Panel and all decisions are final and cannot be appealed

Applicants nominated for the Scholarship, or placed on the Reserve List, may be asked to submit their full academic transcripts, and other supporting documents, before the Scholarship offer is confirmed

The scholarship will be deducted directly from tuition fees owed to the University. The scholarship is for the first year of academic study only

If a student wishes to exit the course at an early stage in order to gain an exit award, or fails to complete the academic year, the finance department will pro-rata the student’s entitlement to the scholarship depending on their date of exit

Should a student transfer courses or change their study mode, they might be required to repay the scholarship in full  If a student fails to pay fees as agreed, any amount awarded may be reversed and they might need to pay the full fee amount

Should a student leave their course due to unavoidable circumstances, they will need to provide evidence by email to vcscholarships@mmu.ac.uk. This evidence will then be considered by the University. Manchester Met may, at its discretion, pro-rata eligibility for the Scholarship depending on the student’s date of suspension/withdrawal

  • Students must inform their Faculty Programmes Office in writing of any change in their circumstances at the earliest opportunity
  • Whilst Manchester Met scholarships cannot be used in conjunction with one another, an application for a VC Scholarship will not jeopardise the right to another scholarship, should a student be unsuccessful or wish to reject it
  • Manchester Metropolitan University reserves the right to withdraw or amend scholarships without earlier notification
  • Manchester Metropolitan University are the Data Controller for the information submitted in the VC Scholarship Application form. By submitting this form, you give consent to Manchester Met to process your personal data to determine your application.
  • Manchester Met will process applicant personal data in accordance with our Data Protection Policy, which provides further information about privacy rights and who to contact about the processing of personal data. Applications forms will be retained for 12 months, successful applicant information will be retained on the student record in line with the University’s Records Retention Schedule
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with any other University bursary or awards
