We are always looking for the very best athletes to be part of our teams at Loughborough. In support of this we run various scholarships for key sports and for athletes who show outstanding potential. All of our student athletes in our performance programmes benefit from our unrivalled support creating a performance offer designed to maximise team and individual performance.
If you are an elite level athlete studying at Loughborough, you will have access to professional coaching, world-class training facilities, and excellent support in strength and conditioning, sports medicine and sports science. In addition to this, our Sports Scholarships offer financial support of between £500 and £3,500 per year (up to £5,000 per year for exceptional candidates). Our Sports Scholarships also provide access to a performance lifestyle advisor.

You can apply for a sports scholarship as a prospective or current student. If you are a prospective student, please don’t apply until you have at least selected Loughborough as your firm choice, preferably after you have confirmed your place (so after exam results if you have a conditional offer). If you consider yourself to meet the Tier 1 criteria (see our Scholarships page for full details by sport), we can consider applications straight away, so please get in touch.
You don’t have to study a sport related course to be considered for a sports scholarship. Our awards are annual, and everyone has to reapply for support each year.
Many student athletes develop during their time here and become sports scholars during the later years of their undergraduate degree or as a postgraduate student, so you can apply in any year of study.
You will need to commit to representing the University to be considered. This representation would be at least in BUCS competition, and for some sports in national leagues as well. You will also need to adhere to our Scholarship Agreement.
