The University of Tampere Scholarships Programme intended for students who are required to pay tuition fees in Master’s degree programmes. A substantial number of scholarships will be available for the most talented fee-paying students. The scheme consists of two scholarship categories.

  • The University of Tampere tuition fee scholarships cover either 100% or 50% of the tuition fees in a two-year Master’s degree programme
  • The University of Tampere global student award for academic excellencescholarships cover 100% of the tuition fees and include a 7,000 € annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses during the two-year Master’s degree programme.

During the application process, you have the possibility to indicate your wish to apply for the scholarships. The decision on the granted scholarship will be communicated to you together with information on admission.

The scholarship recipients’ progress in studies will be monitored each semester. In order to qualify for the scholarship in the second year, you must earn at least 55 credits as detailed in the personal study plan.

Unfortunately we cannot grant a scholarship to all new students at admission. However, if a fee-paying new student does very well in studies during the first year of studies, i.e. finishes 65 ECTS credits with a GPA no less than 3/5, those students may apply after the first year of studies for the following UTA grant

  • The University of Tampere tuition fee scholarship covering  50% of the tuition fees during the second year of studies.

The tuition fees charged in UTA’s Master’s degree programmes offered in English range between 8,000 and 12,000 € per academic year, while most programmes charge either a fee of 10,000 € or 12,000 € per academic year.

Tampere University tuition fee scholarships cover 100% of the tuition fees for the programme duration. The programme duration is

  • three years for Bachelor’s degrees
  • two years for Master’s degrees
  • five years if the study right is granted for both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree.​​​

General eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a Master’s degree programme at UTA, you must have

  1. a completed university level Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the field of the desired Master's degree programme or in a closely related subject AND
  2. fluency in English sufficiently advanced for academic studies.

We accept the following tests as proof of a good command of English:

  • TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language; 90/Internet-based, 575/paper-based
    • Note: scores from TOEFL ITP/institutional testing programme are not accepted.
  • IELTS (Academic), International English Language Testing System; 6.5 with no individual score below 5.5
  • PTE (Academic), Pearson’s Test of Academic English; 62.
  • Please note that some of the programmes may have slightly different language proficiency requirements. Read the programme admission webpage carefully.

Applicants who have not completed their Bachelor's degree by the application deadline are eligible to apply. In this case you can be admitted to the Master's degree programme on the condition that you graduate and send an officially attested copy of the degree certificate to the University of Tampere by 31 July 2018 (the exact deadline will be given yearly). If you do not submit the degree certificate copy to the University of Tampere in time, this conditional admission will expire.
